Alright, are you ready for my review of your translation in Cafe DReAMLAND (the link just leads through the playthrough playlist of the game)? I think it's absolute perfection. I think it also ties with I Can't Be Human, but I think it's slightly more above, and I could say miles better as well than HHW! (tho I don't say that you did HHW bad, I've always seen it as good.) I really enjoyed reading the dialogues really amazing. You captured the personalities of the characters so well, and it's really well done. I would say you had more cultural flavor for this one. Again overall, you verily done a well job. I guess the only thing I'm lacking to close this at this point, is if I ever learn Japanese and do a full read and dialogue comparison I guess, and I guess maybe the reading about Cthulhu mythos, but I feel like it might not matter for now, as again, you did amazing on this one. I had some laughs, some internal crying I guess (I always have to be serious at times anyways unfortunately, plus the first 2 parts were recorded at nighttime.)
Still you did a very amazing job done. Welp, hopefully to see more translation of many games out there from you. Just don't forget not to overwork, and take some breaks.
Thanks for the review! The characters' personalities were simpler to understand than the personalities that "normal people in real life" would have, so it was easier to interpret that into the English language.
I will say that in doing a full read comparison between the Japanese and English versions, you will most definitely stumble upon translation choices that aren't direct translations but rather interpretations for a player who has no knowledge of the Japanese language (a game having translation notes while you're reading dialogue would disrupt the immersion, and even then, I'm not a fan of translation notes when they're used in mostly fan-translated manga and subs), so even something as simple as "arigatou" that translates directly to "thank you" could be worded differently depending on the context. As well, with inspiration from Cthulhu mythos, that also comes with it the creator's discretion to pick, choose, and also change lore that's already established. I did make sure to do my research on Cthulhu mythos since I'm not versed in the world and chose words that I discovered were frequently used in the community, but not everything is going to be one-to-one to what you might research yourself, so it's helpful to keep these things in mind.
Ooh, interesting! Might check this one out later. I played the demo of DReAMLAND, and I must say I'm impressed with the translation, and it's absolutely drastically an improvement. So Kudos! I'm really looking forward to it. (And my wallet is kind of ready, hopefully it's affordable.)
Speaking of, there was the other game they release based on the same universe. It's the only one I haven't played... and can't also buy it, because it's on a different platform.... and it's on h-site (and also had different payments). It does have english translation, but I'm unsure if you're the one that also did it or not. So I do only have one question tho, if you checked out the game already during those times, do I miss out anything for not seeing this, and more of supplementary, or no ? But if you didn't anyway and/or as well probably not the one who translated the game, that's also fine, and nevermind me then.
(I'm gonna admit something on this tho, I tried to "black magic" about the game, but all I find is just the h-version or the (ar-ey-tin) and yeah. I was hoping someone has the somewhat safer version. There was a playthrough by someone, but there are times I just want to find it out for myself. )
Also, I'm really sorry in advance for bothering you something like this. And if there's something uncomfortable or something, I will just edit out this comment or like delete this right away. (<- I'm still honestly not good in conversations)
Hey! For this game, I still haven't gotten back in touch with the dev about the stuff that needs fixing since there's a lot of it, so in its current state, I'd say it's probably best to wait until then. (They're very busy right now, though, so I'm not sure if they'll be able to get to those changes soon.) That's also why I haven't made a post about it except for this one, but hopefully we'll work something out!
And thanks for checking out the Cafe DReAMLAND demo! If you mean an improvement from Hello Hello World, yes, I definitely agree! I also looked more into Cthulhu lore to pick words and phrases that are used by the community, and I'm glad with how it turned out!
That game, I didn't translate, so I can't say for certain if you're missing anything, but based on the Steam description of Cafe DReAMLAND and having played through the whole thing myself while translating, you shouldn't need any prior knowledge from any games to play it. It's just a nice bonus when you do see the references.
ah ok, got it, I mean there's a lot of time and things for me to do anyways! they'll have the time eventually. Still looking forward to it! Also sorry if I only replied now.

It's all good, thanks for the consideration!
